Job Advert Role Description

ob Purpose
To lead the implementation and delivery of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for the service, supporting individuals, colleagues, and teams in implementing positive and proactive approaches that improve wellbeing and quality of life for the people we support, while reducing restrictive practices.

Responsibilities
Quality
• Demonstrate best practice in the implementation of PBS, working with individuals, colleagues, key stakeholders, internal and external multidisciplinary teams, and families.
• Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments.
• Develop and implement PBS plans.
• Provide staff training and development, including PBS, practice workshops, and other associated training.
• Lead the development and implementation of Restrictive Practice Reduction plans.
• Work with site leaders to develop and deliver person-centred, proportionate risk management procedures.
• Review and debrief incidents.
• Attend and contribute to internal and external meetings as required.
• Ensure compliance with operational standards and statutory regulations.
• Complete mandatory and additional training relevant to the role as required.
Innovation
• Lead the embedding of a Positive Behaviour Support culture within services.
• Support the assessment and transition of new referrals.
Communication
• Communicate with internal and external agencies and stakeholders across all relevant divisions and disciplines.
Budgets & equipment
• Share responsibility for the proper use, maintenance, and security of equipment, tools, and systems required within the role.
Informatics
• Ensure the confidentiality of service users is maintained and appropriate use of data systems as applicable to the role.
• Ensure inspection documentation, certification, and other associated records comply with operational standards and statutory regulations.
Person Specification
Essential:
• Formal qualification in PBS or related field (e.g., BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, MSc Applied Behaviour Analysis, MA or MSc in Autism Studies, PBS/ABA Graduate Diploma).
• Experience in conducting behavioural assessments and developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions for individuals presenting with challenging behaviour.
• History of providing direct support to people with learning disabilities and/or Autism and behaviours of concern.
• Detailed understanding of the legal frameworks and processes relevant to the role (e.g., Mental Health Act (1983), Safeguarding, risk management).
• Willingness and ability to work in physically and emotionally demanding situations.
• Ability to work as part of a team in a leadership capacity, leading and influencing others positively.
• Excellent record-keeping and written skills, including report writing.
• Experience in delivering PBS training.
• History of reducing the use of restrictive practices.
• Full driver’s license and availability of a vehicle for business use.
Desirable:
• Qualified at Degree level or higher in a relevant field, e.g., Psychology.
• Experience working with people with co-occurring mental health conditions.
Additional Attributes

• Excellent communication skills.
• In-depth understanding of the principles of PBS and Applied Behaviour Analysis.
• Ability to work independently and be skilled in self-assessment of work.
