Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and committed psychological professional to provide management and leadership to psychological professionals working in the Mental Health and Wellness teams in Waltham Forest, working with adults with complex mental health problems.

Our staff are skilled and committed professionals including Clinical and counselling psychologists, Adult Psychotherapists, CBT therapists, Family intervention workers and CAPs. We offer a range of evidence based interventions to clients and families including CBT, MBT, EMDR, CBTp, FI and psychodynamic psychotherapy. Psychological professionals work within the multidisciplinary teams supporting psychologically minded and trauma informed care. 

Our teams in Waltham Forest are trained in Open Dialogue and we are committed to supporting relational and dialogical ways of working. 

Tackling health inequalities in mental health care is a key priority of NELFT as a Trust. In Waltham Forest we are particularly interested in improving access, experience and outcomes for black men. We are looking for a lead who can help support this work and ensure our services support our populations equally.

The post holder will work closely with the Community Psychology and Trauma informed care lead for Waltham Forest who leads psychological professionals working with our communities, refugees and people experiencing homelessness.

Main duties of the job

•Providing operational and professional leadership and supervision of Psychological Professions working in Waltham Forests Mental health and Wellness teams to ensure excellence in clinical care and service delivery, which is consistent with the initiatives and drivers of the NELFT’s Adult Mental Health Clinical Strategy.

Candidates should have substantial experience of delivering one or more evidence based therapies and supervision of staff, within multidisciplinary teams. You should have the ability to provide clear and compassionate leadership to our staff and support innovation and service improvement, in partnership with users and service and carers. The postholder will work closely with the Waltham Forest management team.

    Probationary Period

    This post will be subject to a probationary period. 

    NELFT place great importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

    High Cost Area Supplement - Outer London

    This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,313 to a maximum of £5,436 pro rata for part time).

    On-call payment 
    This post will be required to participate in the Trust on-call rota and attracts payment of 1% of the basic salary.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    1.To lead on the delivery of high quality, responsive and accessible psychological provision to individual adult Service Users and their families, who are receiving care in the Mental Health and Wellness Teams of the assigned borough.

    2.Leading on the provision of expert advice, consultation and support to to colleagues in the Mental Health and Wellness Teams and other professionals who are referring Service Users to the service. To include providing a psychological perspective to care planning for Service Users who are complex and/or present with risk.

    3.To provide the necessary leadership and infrastructure to support evidence-based practice.

    4.To participate in dialogue with other Psychological Professional leads regarding best practice in order to promote the provision of high quality, evidence based practice which promotes anti-discriminatory practice, cultural competence and equality of opportunity.

    5.To work in collaboration within a variety of forums to ensure consistency and quality of clinical standards, to support service development and Trust initiatives.
