About the role:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Coppermills Water Treatment Site. As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our water treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. To assist in keeping such a site running.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician

  •  Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
  • You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
  • Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters and controls, electronic control systems such as VSD, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, variable speed drives and controls, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  • Completing statutory checks as required.
  • Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.

Base Location: Coppermills - East London - E17 7HE

Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 15:36 pm plus standby & overtime opportunity increasing earnings by a potential £8,000-£10,000

All PPE, Tools and Van are Provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical engineering qualification.
  • A valid driving license is essential.
  • Be a time-served apprentice with considerable experience in Mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety procedures are essential.

  • Be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined, have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times, but very rewarding too.
  • Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the team.
  • Teamwork – We are one team, and our end goals are the same.
  • Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
  • Must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.

  • Competitive salary up to £37,680 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
