NHS Orkney is seeking an exceptional medical leader to take on the pivotal role of Associate Medical Director (AMD) – Primary and Secondary Care. This is an exciting and unique position, designed to strengthen the integration between primary and secondary care in Orkney, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred services.

This full-time (10 PA) role is split between Primary Care and Secondary Care, offering a rare opportunity for a senior clinician to influence strategy, develop services, and improve patient care across the whole health system. Up to 2 PA (1 day per week) are available for SPA and direct clinical activity to support your continuing clinical role.

The role is open to GPs, Doctors and Consultants, making it an attractive career move for experienced clinicians with a track record of leadership and service improvement.

The Role

As AMD for Primary and Secondary Care, you will provide strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and system-wide improvement across both sectors. You will be a key driver in strengthening integration, leading service transformation, and ensuring that NHS Orkney continues to deliver outstanding care to its population.

We are seeking an experienced GP or Consultant with a passion for leadership, integration, and service transformation. You should be a strategic thinker, able to inspire and engage teams, and committed to driving forward innovation in patient care.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide both clinical and strategic leadership across Primary and Secondary Care in Orkney. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a unique healthcare setting, developing integrated services that directly impact patient care.
