We are looking to recruit a patient, warm, caring and reliable *Female Support Worker to work with a delightful lady with cerebral palsy and a learning disability in her own home in the Crantock, Cornwall area. Role will involve personal & domestic care, moving and handling including hoisting, carrying out therapy programmes, accessing therapeutic activities and social & leisure outings.

Previous experience and full driving licence are essential.

*Please note we are recruiting Female Support Workers due to a genuine occupational requirement of the person we support therefore this role is exempt from the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9

What you will be working:

12 hours per week initially in four hour shifts to cover variable times within the day on a flexible basis to cover a 24/7 rota.

What you will be doing:

  • Assist the client to exercise choice and control over their own lives as far as they are able in everyday matters but taking into consideration cognitive problems
  • Liaise with and support the family as required
  • Assist the client to ensure an adequate level of hygiene is maintained
  • Supporting the client to use local amenities such as shops and leisure facilities and attend community events
  • Follow the service user plan as documented for the client
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records
  • Providing distance administration support to progress any ongoing input, Not limited to, contacting third parties, arranging appointments, following up on outstanding actions/tasks
  • Maintain professional boundaries with the client and their family members, adhering to direction from the case manager as appropriate

    What you will have:

    Essential:

  • An NVQ (or equivalent) in care and recent training would be an advantage.
  • You will have some experience of caring for people with physical and/or learning disabilities.
  • You will have a positive interest in active rehabilitation and a desire to enable this person to reach her full potential.
  • You will be female (Due to the occupational nature of the role. This post is compliant with Paragraph 1, Schedule 9 of the Equality Act 2010 relating to Occupational Requirements.)
  • You will be a driver with a full UK driving licence and be confident to drive the client’s car.
  • You are a person with great communication skills especially with the client, her family and other professionals involved.
  • You will have a DBS on the update service or will complete an enhanced DBS if successful. Initial DBS check paid for by us.
  • Desirable: 

  • You will have experience of managing others and knowledge of organising staff rotas will be required.
  • Current training in the following areas: Equality, diversity and inclusion, Health and safety at work, Control of substances hazardous to health, Fire safety awareness, Infection control, Food hygiene, Manual handling, First aid / basic life support including CPR, Safeguarding vulnerable adults, Safeguarding vulnerable children, Conflict management and Lone working.
