Portsmouth Water is excited to offer an excellent opportunity for a Production Operations Team Leader to join our well-respected Production Department.
In this vital role, you'll lead a dedicated team responsible for the operation, control, and monitoring of our production assets, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water.
You’ll also oversee risk assessments, equipment maintenance, and help optimise treatment processes to balance water quality with cost efficiency. What will you be doing?
Key Responsibilities
- Ensuring all work is undertaken to a high standard of safety and technical quality.
- Ensuring generic and specific method statements, work procedures, and safety instructions are followed.
- Providing input and feedback on minor non-routine operational activities of other changes, as required.
- Monitoring performance through effective performance management, giving team members clear direction, support and guidance on their areas of responsibility.
- Ensure that Health & Safety procedures and processes are followed including the Management of Risk Assessments, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments, internal inspections and audits and any other Control Measures.
- Conducting regular 1-1’s with direct reports, absence reviews and any other associated meetings to support ongoing effective performance management of the team.
- Gives input to the Employee Performance Development Review process, identifying training gaps, offering or allocating mentoring and further support as required.
- Ensure vehicles, plant and equipment remain in adequate condition and report any defects to the Production Supervisor.
- Ensuring optimisation of the treatment processes, balancing water quality against cost (energy and chemical usage).
- Ensure that the Planned Maintenance Procedures for Production Operational tasks are maintained and reviewed according so to satisfy regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the delivery of agreed programs of planned work to an agreed timeline, taking appropriate action to address any slippage.
- Ensure all Storage and Production assets are operated efficiently.
- Ensure sufficient cover for the out of hours standby rota at all times.
What do you need?
Skills, Qualifications & Competencies
- Industry water operations related qualification, e.g., CABWI Level 3 or 4 in Water Treatment.
- Systems based skills and a willingness to learn new technologies
- Proven experience and a practical understanding of water treatment processes or water industry exposure
- Supervisory qualification, level 3 and/or previous leadership experience and a willingness to undertake relevant training to upskill in this area.
- IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent practical understanding and experience.
- A to C or Level 4 and above, GCSE English, Maths and ideally a science-based subject.
- Knowledge of chemical handling and basic hydraulic principles.
- Experience of working with Human Machine Interface (HMI)/touch screen devices
- Computer and smart phone literate
- Full UK Driving licence (you will be required to undertake our driver assessment).
