Our DevOps team supports multiple internal software teams; this high level support allows those teams to provide our clients with our best in class software solutions. The DevOps Team of Trimble provides development, hosting and managed services for a variety of application solutions and services. The databases underlying these systems are mission critical in terms of high performance, high availability and data security. 


As part of your role, you will have primary responsibility for developing, supporting and operating production and development OLTP, and data warehouse databases. Support activities include maintenance, tuning and troubleshooting OLTP and reporting operations for PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MongoDB server databases. To be successful in this position you will require knowledge of these platforms residing on AWS RDS instances and Linux based infrastructure.


You will be joining a global team of DevOps professionals with colleagues based across the US, Europe and Asia, so experience of working in international working groups would be advantageous. As is the ability to problem solve and build excellent working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. 


Because of the time differences between this role and colleagues in the wider team, you must be able to draw on your own experience to work through database challenges and manage your own time well. 


What You Will Do:

  • Consult with applications teams as needed on architecture, code development, tuning, best practices, etc.
  • Provide thought leadership and best practice expertise as well as proactive
  • communication to ensure operational excellence and best of breed solutions
  • Interface with Development Teams, Engineering product support teams, Systems Engineers and Network team resources for architecting, troubleshooting, debugging, root cause analysis and resolution of application and infrastructure issues
  • Provide application SQL design and tuning advice to development and engineering teams
  • Provide input and assist with architecture, implementation and support of failover, high availability, and disaster recovery designs
  • Plan, coordinate, communicate, test, implement, and install product upgrades and patches
  • Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience managing large production databases OR a BS Degree in a related engineering or IT field
  • Experience with both data architecture design and operation of 24x7, high availability services with high transaction rate OLTP and large data warehouse systems
  • Significant database administration experience with PostgreSQL and Oracle at a senior level, managing database sizes exceeding 10TB.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Amazon Web Services. Relevant experience with other Cloud platforms will be taken into consideration
  • Contribute to customer schema designs for new and existing product suites
  • Build effective working relationships with development teams to transform traditional database infrastructures into Private and Public Cloud hosted solutions
  • Strong experience in backup restore/recovery processes and procedures for all of the database platforms
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to clearly present information to engineers, managers and executive stakeholders.

  • Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working inside ITIL and ISO27001 or similar regulatory process environments
  • Experience with some database procedural languages such as PL/SQL and PL/plSQL
  • Experience with scripting and automation for Unix and Windows platforms
  • Experience with migrating database platforms
  • Knowledge of software development cycles and source code control methodologies
  • Experience with additional DB platforms such as MS-SQL, MySQL, and NoSQL systems
