About the role
We are currently recruiting a Stores Lead to join QinetiQ Target Systems (QTS) within our Production Team. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target.


QTS targets are used to enable realistic weapons test and evaluation and operator training in over 40 countries worldwide with QTS providing a complete managed service in over 15 of these countries.

What will I be doing?

Reporting to the Production Manager you will provide leadership to a team of up to 10 and ensure that the Stores function operates efficiently and effectively, in delivering its inputs and outputs. Day to day tasking will involve on time delivery of the Stores plan and goods inwards, active participation in production meetings, team development, and take ownership of departmental continuous improvement activities to health and safety, stores processes, inventory accuracy and storage solutions.

Duties will include:

• Ownership in the delivery of the kitting and dispatch plan, goods inwards and dispatch, utilising resource effectively to ensure delivery on time and in full.
• Conduct departmental production meetings, to collate meaningful improvement metric data, and take ownership in delivering improvements.
• To ensure all items received into stores are correctly and efficiently processed; handled, recorded, identified, and located correctly.
• Ownership of departmental Health and Safety including Risk Assessments, which include continual review and maintenance, and effective communication.
• Oversee Inventory management aspects including cycle counting, accuracy of stock levels and ensuring adequate storage solutions.
• To monitor, progress and update departmental training / skills matrix.
• To be responsible for all items that are returned for servicing, raising the relevant documentation and tracking goods until ready for despatch back to customer.
• Maintain a consistent standard of work and performance to satisfy the Company’s Quality Assurance standards, in line with the company’s procedures
• To steer recruitment activities including interview, on-boarding and induction
• Departmental time and absence management – Holiday, sickness…
• Departmental Performance Development Reviews (PDR) – Setting SMART objectives, in line with business strategy, perform quarterly reviews and salary reviews
• Drive departmental Continuous improvement activities
• Key holding and security related activities


 What do I need?

You will have previous experience in a similar role, and be able to influence and motivate a team.
You’ll be extremely well organised, work to a high standard and have excellent communication skills.

We also ask that you:

• Have previous experience in managing a team in a parts store / warehouse that covers receipt, dispatch and managing of customer owned product.
• Are IT literate
• Have had exposure to stock checking routines, process and audit requirements
• Have a logical approach to planning the stores functions
• Have inventory management experience
• Are able to use a Fork lift truck
• Have Knowledge and delivery of Continuous Improvement initiatives and adopting of LEAN principals
• Have ISO:9001 awareness


It would be an advantage if you have:

• Experience in continuous Improvement methodology and delivery to include a Six Sigma Green belt qualification
• Quality Auditing experience
• IOSH / NEBOSH certification
